The men’s soccer team has gradually been picking up steam and cruising through a winning streak.
In the pre-season they played five tough contenders from the Eastern region that are affectionately known as “Beasts from the East.”
At the end of the nine matches Pierce had a record of 3-5-1, but in its scoring differential they outscored the other teams 11-9 after five games.
“The record doesn’t show how good this team is,” said Soccer Coach Bill Pearson. “The Spokane and Columbia Basin games we never should have lost, but it was just tactical things that we were doing wrong that we’ve (since) fixed.”
Partway through pre-season the team faced some setbacks. Goal keeper Alex Hall was set on a doctor ordered hiatus for four weeks, and the team lost the five games that they played without him. However, some good came of Hall’s absence.
“Without him we really strengthened our defense,” said Pearson. “It helped our defense become a unit back there.”
The team is expected to make it to the finals.
