Childcare can be a challenge for parents wanting to return to school.
The Garnero Child Development Center offers a solution. On the Pierce College Puyallup campus across from the College Center, it provides students with affordable childcare.
The mission statement of the center is, “to provide affordable and accessible childcare in a quality early childhood environment that recognizes children, parents and staff as part of a campus-based learning community.”
The self-described emergent curriculum provides a means for children to explore interests through constructive play designed to improve the child’s development emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially.
Registration is open for children one to five years old, with rates based on credit load, child’s age and family income. There is a $50 registration fee.
The Garnero center provides a flexible schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a minimum of 20 hours of care per week. Families not affiliated with Pierce College can also enroll by paying a flat monthly rate based on a child’s age and whether full or part time care is needed.
Program assistant Dede Reaves said the center currently has no openings, but a waiting list is available for those looking for childcare.
